Guest tom sixbey
yeah... - however, if it's not set up exactly right they sound nasty... - If you listen to the genereal lee's exhaust on the dukes of hazard, that is nothing more than 30 inch glasspacks behind a stock 440, and everybody i know thinks it is the best sounding exhaust they've heard... The one thing i dont like about them is that jake-brake rattle they make when you let off the gas, but i think that is the fault of not having a crossover on a dual exhaust system.. I'm going to try out an x-pipe crossover with glasspacks and resonator tips... - hopefully that will smooth the exhaust note out some and quiet it down while still giving me that "open header" tone... any suggestions? Guest Anonymous
Sorry 'bout the misunderstanding Ross, so what do you guys think would be best to use for the resonators at the 2.5" piping? Turbo-style or Straight-thru? Here is a list of cfms I found for different mufflers. Dynomax have all their mufflers rated in their catalog, but some of their numbers seem pretty crazy to me... A regular 3" pipe should flow 820-850cfms, and they rate their 3" straightthrus at 2000cfm! Might just be that they've done their ratings at a higher temperature? I dunno Anyways, enjoy... Guest Glenn Parker
I went to a muffler shop and got a 3" resonator 12" long. Outside dia. is 4" I cut 4" out of the center to make it 8" over all. I then cut 6" of the back of the 2 into 1 flowmaster pipe and welded them together. Now the pipes merge together and go into the resonator and its only 2" longer than the original 2 to 1 pipe. the 3" pipe winds its way to a dynamax turbo 3". it sounds great! No annoying sounds in the car and not loud. Its quiet enough that I now want to quiet my Carter fuel pump down.
Guest Anonymous
check this link out... Very informative site They've also got a 2 into 1 muffler, but its too big for our purposes (9" in diameter!) http://www.castheads.com/exhaust/exhaust.htm all the juicy stuff is in the second half of the page. Turns out that a single exhaust system is not only cheaper, quieter, and lighter than duals, but apparently, it can be more powerful too!
