Guest Anonymous
Hi to all again, I do appreciate all the input I got from my previous thread/question about the Hooker engine swap headers #2147. I still have a question though, I have decided to use the JTR mount kit. What headers do you recommend for a '97 LT1 and 4L60E. What would be the easiest to install? Anything I need to relocate or tweak? Part #'s for the headers? Will any type of block huggers work with the LT1's angle plug heads? Since I will more than likely be mail ordering the headers, I would like to get some that have been tried and tested by other members.(Don't feel like fighting with headers or trying to ship back). I have checked out other threads on this subject, but all I found was the S&S full length that others had a lot of trouble installing. Thanks again to everyone, Charlie
nullbound
i asked a similar question on here about headers for angled-plug heads about a month ago. the solution presented to me was to use the rw37 from here: http://www.zigsstreetrods.com/ these will work with the JTR setup, as mike kz has these on his car with that kit. you'll notice immediately on that page the difference between the rw37 and the rw27 (a standard-style shorty blockhugger). this makes all the difference for those angled plugs. there is a good amount of clearance for the spark plug boots, too. these come nicely coated and should work well with your LT1. if anyone knows of a problem here, please chime in. also, they are priced at a low $199, which you cant really beat, especially since they are already coated. i had hookers on my last motor... i like the rw37's better. i did have to modify the rw37s on my car to clear the steering arm, but I am using the hooker (scarab) kit. good luck! ryan
Modern Motorsports Ltd
The standard Hooker Super Comp 1-5/8's are working fine on my Dad's Lt1/240Z. They don't match the ports out of the box, my dad modified the port entry (head is D port, header was round AIR) to match the head and he hasn't had gasket sealing issues at all. They're a nice ceramic coated piece. I recall they were snug to some wires but I got him some 'booties' for Father's Day and they did the trick.
