80LS1T
Ok, I have looked in the past post and havent found to much info on this but what I do know is that there is no LT1 edit for a 93'. What I want to know is if I go with a newer computer and get a MAF sensor to will this work? I would like the ability to edit my program but I want to know if there is a difference other than the new computerchip with flash memory? Will it hook right up with my harness??? Guest super280z
yes there's no LT1 edit for the 93 but, www.tunercat.com if you have the 93 harness you need a 94+ to run the Maf. just get a 94+ harness and maf and it will work. ;D
80LS1T
I sorry I didnt understand your reply , So I need a 94+ ECM, 94+ harness(this will work on my engine right?), and a 94+ MAF.(all matching in year, right?) Sorry I just had to clarify Thanks for the info, I have been trying to get some answers for like 2 or 3 days but no one would reply
Guest super280z
No prob man, being that there's not too many LT1 guys on the board, it sometimes takes a while to get the info you need. technically, you just need a 94 or 95 PCM if you want to run with the MAF. the 94 - 97 harnesses are almost identical and can be used with any OBD1 PCM, but with the 93 you would be stuck in SD mode with no MAF. for example, i've reverted a 97 (OBD 2) back to a 94 Pcm with no problems at all. just plug and drive. tunercat should be able to hook you up with anything you might need. 80LS1T
Thanks I really needed the help! Also, what is SD mode???
Guest Anonymous
pretty sure that SD mode is speed density. That is the configuration of the '93 ECM, which means it doesn't use the MAF, but rather the MAP (vaccuum sensor in the intake? ) hope this helps. -Nick
BLKMGK
Be aware of one thing - SD systems don't compensate for mods as well as MAF systems do. SD systems rely on a lookup table based on RPM and MAP load to figure out fuel. MAF systems actually measure the air instead and can handle mods. Frankly, I like MAF better! However if you can modify the internal maps MAP sensed systems are simpler to use and have no restriction in the intake path. BTW, when you're tuning an EFI system you'll be making all sorts of changes, possibly often. Modifying the GM OEM ECU can be done obviously but make sure you understand that it's not as simple as an aftermarket system. Car must be idled or shut off while uploading and it's possible to screw up the ECU if things go awry. I don't think it's a bad idea mind you, I considered trying to do it with my older SBC, but what I was reading and the costs I was looking at just didn't add up. Before you go too far down this path be sure you compare the troubles and cost with say a Holley Commander system...
80LS1T
So can I go from the 93 SD system to the 94-97 MAF system with just a new computer, MAF, and wiring harness?
BLKMGK
You may not even need all of that. I'd bet that a few Camaro guys have converted from MAF to SD and could tell you how. I'd chat with the LT1-Edit folks, they would know for sure.
