strotter
Title says it all. Searched around in the archives for "fuel pump noise/noisy/loud/irritating/droning of bees/make it stop make it stop" but didn't find a definitive answer. I'm running a GM TBI FI on a mild 327, so I only need 10/15 psi or so. The MSD pump I have is driving me nuts. I've tried rubber-isolating it (with grommets and sheet rubber) under the package tray, but the thing is - strident. Any suggestions? z-ya
Is the inlet line large enough? ID the fuel filter before the pump clean? I had problems with my Bosch pump being loud. It ended up being the fuel filter before the pump having crud in it. I cleaned it and it's quiet. Also, make sure the pump isnot cavitating in other ways. Guest Anonymous
if it drives you that nuts you can get a kit to drop it down to 6 volt at idel or set it up for undre no load with a MAP sencer you will pay for this but it works the 1st thing to getting one is to find a shop that top fule dragsters go to thay use it so thay dont burn up the pump before staging
Lockjaw
Well a holley red pump is not the solution. That thing is loud too. I wonder if you could run an efi pump, and regulate it down to the psi you need. If so the Peirburg pump I am running on my ZX is very quiet, and it comes encased in rubber. Got it from Cartech for about 200 bucks. I am considering trying a little walbro I have and see if I can regulate it down to work with my su's. Just not that motivated yet. Guest Perry
My car uses a stock replacement 280Z pump. It looks a bit different than the factory one but is sold as a direct replacement. It is a bit smaller in diameter than the original so I mounted it to the factory rubber isolator by riveting a large hose clamp in place and putting the pump in it. It is so quiet I cannot hear it inside the car with the engine not running. I have a carbed V8 up front and ran the Datsun regulator on the firewall with a Holley low pressure reg connected to it for the carb. I figure if I need more flow I'm gonna run a second pump and bigger lines. Oh yea, new pump was about $80. Perry
