Guest Anonymous
So, how much has everybody spent so far, and what do they have? Basically, I'm kinda look'n for financial statements, hah. Before I even start on anything, I want to know the average of what people are spending, and the amount of work going into it.
Tim240z
check out this discussion from a couple of months back: How much have you spent.... Tim
Guest Anonymous
Some of the best general advice will come out of the JTR Datsun V8 conversion manual. You can study this to figure out what you want, and then you can price all the conversion pieces to get an idea what you want. And sort out the details on this website. I try to go as CHEAP as possible but....I like the name brand stuff too for a little class. As far as I am concerned one inexpensive way to go is to find a V8 conversion complete where you get the whole thing less than what the parts cost. A young fellow I know found a decent v8 conversion for a $200O.00 asking price and you could not begin to buy the performance parts and car for 1/2 that price.I found an old Monte Carlo loaded with Edelbrock performance parts but it has a 350 trans and non Hei ignition which I have no use for. I spent $500. last month on missing parts. and so it goes. It is a long term project . The hunt is more important than the finish for me. Guest Anonymous
Yeah, I found a V8 conversion for about $1900, but it already has a body kit on it(one I don't like), and has engine pinging. You think it would still be a good deal? Would I be able to get that pinging fixed for a good price, and also tear his kit down and install a 280YZ? Guest Anonymous
Oh yeah, I also have pictures of his car if you would like me to email them.

Tim240z
from what I can see, it is well worth the asking price...jump on it man!! Tim
Guest Anonymous
But I was thinking...what about putting the 280YZ on it? You think I'd have to do many mods? The car already has some flares and that rear end. Of course with the YZ kit, i'd be cut'n out them flares. The rear end looks ok to me..you think i'd be able to change it to something else without too much difficulty?
Guest Anonymous
Also, it has a pinging problem. He uses the car every day and it does not over-heat. He tried using a higher octane fuel as a test, but there is still pinging. What could cause the pinging and how much you think it would take to fix given each cause? DavyZ
Dude, buy that car. The pinging can be caused by a number of things. The easiest to fix is the timing--we had to reduce the amount of timing on a car I had to get rid of the pinging. Davy
Guest Anonymous
I REALLY want to buy the car, but there are still couple things that are making me hold back. 1) It's an automatic and I want a 5-speed, 2) I don't want that rear light config, and I don't know if the fender flares were done the old way...pounded out. Any ideas?
Guest Anonymous
Are the flares metal? A simple refrigerator magnet (don't tell the female of the household that you have it) will let you know if it sticks, metal, if not... Guest Anonymous
I emailed the guy at the VR Engineering(who make the 280YZ kit) and they said the flares wouldn't be a prob either..i'd be cut'n them away in the first place..woohoo! DavyZ
The tranny can be swapped quite easily. The rear lights may be another story, but if the car is nice and the price is right... Try Lone's magnet idea and see if it works--that'll tell you about the flares. Davy
