I have a stock 280zx with n42 head with after market air filter (12" cone) i'm having probs with the car revving high and have narrowed it down to the pcv valve, when i disconnect it the engine will idle at 850 and revs ok but with it on it's like the engine revvs high and will not decrease in rpms. The pcv checks out ok and the car idles smooth once the rpms drop down. Any ideas????

check to make sure your throttle blade isnt getting sticky with deposits. check it's return spring too. The vaccume difference might be affecting its operation depending on where the pcv hose return is located on the intake system (i'm not too familiar with ZX)

Well the plate was ok and the linkage is fine but oddly enough when i open the oil cap the car runs fine,i also bypassed the air reg with a blocked hose as the reg would only close partially

hmmm. thats odd. - can you take off the intake boot and watch the throttle blade? - watch it under operation of you can. that might revail some more clues if you havent done so already.

good luck with it!

Don't take off the intake boot on a ZX. The MAF sensor won't send numbers to the fuel injection and the car won't run. Been there, done that. Actually, the hose came undone all by itself, car died, but ran fine once it was reconnected. First and only time I was stranded on the side of the road because of that car.

Give us more detials:

1) Did you go out one morning & start the car up only to find it acting up?

2) Did the car begin acting funny upon a cold start, after the car is warmed up, after the car has been turned off & then restarted?

3) Does it only act up when at idle, while cruising? ect, ect!

If you dont have one now-you need to get one...specifically a Factory Nissan Service Manual.

The factory service manual will indicate the trouble shooting procedure for all problems: air, fuel or ignition.

I'm not too familiar w/the ZX either-however the factory service manual should walk you through it w/relative ease (yea, easy for me to say) cuss.gif

If I had to guess tho-I would guess unmetered air, restriction in the airflow or a binding linkage...but that is just a guess.
