Guest livewire23
Was inspired by tomahawk Z's post on parts interchanging as a method of troubleshooting. I always used this for other problems, and now I want to apply it to my Z. but the thing is, I only have a 240z accessible for swapping. Does anyone know how much, if any, of the ignition system interchanges? Im getting no spark in the L28, the battery is charged, so im just gonna move from the spark plugs backwards testing the parts. I suppose I should get an ohm-meter for testing while im at it. Any parts that I should check first due to common failures? thanks, kito
Guest livewire23
well, i put in a new cap and rotor, new plugs, new wires, and hooked it all up, and there was a spark. so then i go to the gas station, get a gallon of gas, and pour it in. And we hook up the jumper cables, and after sparks fly from hooking it up wrong, we finally get it all hooked up right. At this point we crank it.... and.... nothing! Im beginning to wonder if the fuel pump even came on.
Guest Anonymous
Keep trying...that is how you learn. If you have the sparking under control, pull the gas line and place the end in a suitable container and turn on the ignition and turn the engine a few times to see if fuel is pumping. Do you have mechanical or electric pump? Are your ignition points set correctly and opening (Assuming you do not have an electronic distribitor)? Is the small wire from the coil that runs to the distrbutor comnnected? If you have a repair manual read it until the ink wears off the page. You will get it.... do not give up because you are working on an outstanding piece of machinery that won't give up if it has help.
Guest livewire23
im not givin up. im hopefully gonna go check the fuel lines today. the ignition seems good. im real thankful to not have to deal with points... Anyone ever tried this old briggs an stratton trick? pour a teaspoon(or less) of fuel directly into the cylinder, put the plugs back in, and see if it runs for a sec. I dont know if that trick works with cars, but its a great test on small engines.
