Guest timhypo
OK guys, I've been reading your posts and being jealous for a little over a year and now it's time for my project to begin. I just bought a '72 240z for the paltry sum of $1200. It has almost no body rust (a real rarity here in OH) and the floors have been 'fixed' using fiberglass pad. The previous owner also welded in new frame rails and some homemade 'subframe connectors' that look pretty good. The brakes went out 10 years ago and he parked it in his pole-building and went on to other projects. Right now, I'm concentrating on getting the thing running (bad starter solenoid), but a V8 is eventually in the works. I'll prolly end up putting in a 9.5:1 383 with a 5-speed, but may go with a LT1/T56 if the price is right. Just an announcement since I'll prolly be bugging you with the stupid questions that I can't answer with the search function. I got a trailerload of parts with it that may find their way to the 'for sale' forum after I figure out what they are and where they're from. Thanks
Guest Russ240z
Congratulations on the new project. Now cut up all the credit cards and join a 12 step program for Z addicts. It will consume your life!
Guest timhypo
Yeah, they guys at autozone are starting to get used to me coming in, trying to get behind the counter to find parts that might fit, and spending a couple hundred bucks. 'You want how many feet of fuel hose?!?'
denny411
I know just what you mean.At the Advance Auto back in Wapak, all of the employees on all shifts know me by name and know my phone # .I`ve spent so much time and money in there, that the manager sells to me at jobber prices and calls me at home to let me know when somthing is going to be discounted It`s a different story down here, 90% of what I buy for my projects is from Ebay.I can`t wait to get started on my Z. For now I`m stuck on the chevelle. I`m going to weld new wheelhouses in tonight. Hey!! you bought the 240 from Ebay I emailed james m about that car since his zx was rearended.I thought it looked like a deal. If I had been at home in Oh you would`ve had some more competition bidding Congrats on the deal. It`s too bad I`m down here, I`ve got 2 or 3 starters in my garage in wapak that I would let you have. Guest timhypo
Yeah, I felt kinda bad about bidding against a fellow hybrider, especially one who lost his Z under those circumstances, but I've been looking for 2 months with cash burning a hole in my pocket. For what it's worth, I've already got over $1800 in the car and the brakes need ALOT of work. On the upside, I'll have performance brakes when I'm done, as I refuse to replace with stock parts when hipo parts are cheaper and easier to get ahold of. Guest greimann
I remember when I did my project in '94, there was a place out here called Autoparts Club. A warehouse club for auto parts. They had all of the parts out in the open that are normally behind the counter. I used to spend hours in there pawing through all of the boxes to see what would work. Sadly, they are out of business and there are no other comparable places. The background and knowledge of this board, however, is a great substitute and time saver over pawing through boxes! madmanadam
Cool another Hybrid, You will enjoy the hours and money and money and hours you will be putting in to your car. I know I have been enjoying for 5 or 6 years and still going. The fun just begun. $10,000 and going. It is all worth it when you take that first drive. I'm always ing
Guest timhypo
I can't wait for that first drive. My starter solenoid comes in Tuesday morning and I'm off work Sunday-Tuesday, so Sunday morning I'll drain the gas tank, check it for rust and POR 15 it if necessary. Monday I'll tear into the brakes, hopefully getting them useable and keeping my eye on what hipo parts to add. Tuesday, I'll pick up my solenoid, hook up the fuel, and start it. Hopefully a bit of carb tweaking and fuse/switch replacement later and I'll be ready to get tags and insurance. Of course, next week I'll have to replace all the belts and hoses as the car sat forever.
