BLKMGK
Small cap here - I yanked the latch. Be SURE to remove the hook from the hood too or it will spike into the coil wire and give you fits. Ask me how I know Just put hood pins where the bumpers are now - it's cake. Drill out the spotwelds carefully and you won't even leave holes... Dan Juday
Yup, pull out the latch. Even if it might clear with the small dizzy, it's still in the way. If you don't want to use hood pins you can use the jtr parts or fab them yourself, not difficult. I used a spot weld cutter to remove mine. It worked nicely, looks like a miniature hole saw with a spring loaded pointy nail in the middle. About $15 at the auto paint store.

Guest Drewz
It depends on how the motor is mounted. I am using the stock latch with my 350 and have no problems. I was told I would but it is fine for me. Try it before you cut.
Guest Carlissimo
Didn't move the latch on my installation. Wish I had though.
riverz
I have the jtr latch on mine with a hei. Have to remove the latch to take the cap off with the accel coil. I am moving mine to the side like pete did
Guest Phil1934
I plan to move mine over, but for you folks with small body distributors and stock latches, there's Madson crossfire caps that are like the old Ford crab caps. They are offered for HEI too but don't look like they offer any height reduction with them.
pparaska
Moved mine over. Bit of a pain to get the hood part of the latch aligned and attached, but I think it's more sano. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/pparaska/image/recentpics/1999July18/hoodlatchdistribv.jpg
