Guest Anonymous
I'm considering building a hybrid Z for next year's GRM $2003 Challenge. Do you guys think it is possible (with bargain shopping and a function first design plan) to build one under the $2003 cap? I do have a rust free 260z that I have $50 in, so I have a good head start there. The biggest challenge seems to be finding 15 or 16 inch wheels cheap... any ideas? If you aren't familiar with the GRM $2003 Challenge, here's the website http://www.grmotorsports.com/
labrat
I did my swap for about 1200 bux not including the car, but i'm really not too happy with the way it turned out. I bought a 69 chevy truck from a friend getting a divorce for the drivetrain, and then rain a cheepie 2" single exhaust, etc. and i'm not too much better off than i was with the 6 cylinder... I'm going to redo everything again, but use a t56 instead of a th350 and build or buy a fast burn 385 instead of the old smoker i got now. Just depends on what your going to do with it. Mine is a daily driver, so this sux...
Guest Anonymous
Yes, you can build it for less than that but the GRM challenge has a claim rule that says that your car can be bought for 2003 dollars. Are you willing to risk you car being bought for that much after you spend that much time on it? If so let me know and I'll be there. pparaska
I agree (Hi Chet - thanks for joining!) I'd not want my labor or parts hunting to be subject to being bought.
Guest Anonymous
I've read the rules and see the provisions for challenging the amount of money invested, but nothing about a claim rule forcing you to sell the vehicle. Can you give me a link to that?
DavyZ
You could build the car for that, but you'd have to find a total deal on all the parts, in addition to fabricating many of the conversion parts. See if the local library has the JTR manual on file, that way you don't have to shell out the money for it. Davy
Guest Anonymous
I am a hunter of bargains and wish that my project had stayed under 2 Grand.I am getting nickeled and dimed to death and always wanting quality products. You can do it but you will not be satisfied with the results.I found there are a lot of things required that are not that easily obtainable. The hunt is more exciting than the capture. Go for the challange and log it in your memory banks for your posterity.
Guest Anonymous
I picked up a used copy of the JTR manual for $5. I think the trick to the challenge is in reselling unused and leftover parts from parts cars... I (theoretically) can greatly reduce my investment that way. The nickel and dime stuff is exactly what I'm worried about. My goal is to do well in the challenge, not to build a beautiful street car. This will be a form follows function project.
