Guest joeyhammer
other than running sds or a similar system is there a way to use a map sensor instead of the bulky restrictive afm on a 83 turbo? i have heard of the z31 swap but i think you need a z31 ecu as well.. has anyone attempted this? also im not sure if maps work as well as the right afm.. can anyone shed some light? thanks alot
Mudge
z31 swap but i think you need a z31 ecu as well I dont see how you wouldn't, since the output of an AFM and a MAP sensor is not likely to be the same, and they work rather backwards of each other. Low MAP output = light throttle, and vice versa, where higher output from an AFM means more air flow, so they really not not similar in terms of output. Frequency/voltage output (the important part to the computer) is definately going to be different. I've thought about using computers from other cars, since Tunercat can play with some of them (Typhoon, etc), and if you could get a setup going for $100-$300 that is fully functional with a 2 bar map sensor or thereabouts, heck thats better than $1000-$3000. I think it would be a fun project too, and you could poke fun at all the people who payed $2500 or so for thier MoTeC setups
