Guest Anonymous
I wasn't sure where to turn about this subject... I have allways been into building cars, everything from a high 13sec turbo Dodge Omni, to my 70' Dodge challenger R/T. Always a mopar fan. My dilemma- My best friend was recently given a cherry 1984 300z, although the car has not been started or driven since 1994. So starting with the thought of the300 needing nearly everything replaced or rebuilt, (As far as breaks, motor gone through etc.) he is wanting to make the car performe like my challenger, or at least my omni. Everyony that knows everything about everything has told him to just through a turbo-charger on it and it will be able to out run a viper... because they know how fast their honda civic would be if it were turbo-charged. Any way, I told him I have known of JTR conversions for a long time and a small block of his choice would be alot less expensive, and produce as much HP. as turbocharging (within his budget-and my shop skills). I have a 435HP 402 magnum stroker crate engine and a "BUILT" A500 O.D. trans. with a 36-3800 converter, awaiting a body. I was thinking this combo would make that little Zcar a pretty mean street maching, and would be a blast to drive! Where do we go from here? I haven't done alot of fabricating, but it's not out of my leage. I guess I just havn't seen or read anything on Gen. II 300's w/V8 conversions, has anyone else? And also -should I keep my drivetrain for myself, and have him just go with a bellybutton motor? (SBC) I know that will be the "cheep way" to go . Where do I start? Tim240z
There are no engine mount kits for the 300Z for any engine swap. You will be forging new territory, so document well and let us know how it progresses. Tim
