Guest zfan
If it is in the hooker/scarab position then you can run the Hooker super comp long tube headers. Mike
80LS1T
No you can't use headers unless they are custom made because of the driver side. The passanger side fits fine. If you have the gear box type of steering then you are in the same boat as I am in! It sucks! I priced a custom header in my area and it would cost about $300-$400 for just the driver side header with a HPC coating! I am using an LT1 and the stock manifolds will fit just fine for now. I am going to get a custom header made sometime in the future but not now because my budget it getting kinda tight! If you do find something thought let us know! Oh and unless you moved the firewall, all 280ZX's are in the Scarb/Hooker/MSA position because the firewall on the 280ZX's is 3" farther forward, so you can't put it in the JTR position unless you move the firewall. Guest 327zxer
I have rack and pinion steering and I am going to use the jtr mounts.
80LS1T
Do you have that large gear box on the drivers side? Also you might be using the JTR mounts but you can't put the motor in the JTR POSITION unless you move the firewall.
Guest 327zxer
where can i find the hooker motor mounts.
80LS1T
I dont think the Scarb/Hooker mounts are avalible anymore? Search through the archieves for that info. The MSA mounts are basically the sam thought I think. Scarb/Hooker/MSA all mount in basically the same position though. I think there is another company who makes mounts too, I think its like Johns Caror something like that??? I dont think there is anyway around it though, you will need a custom header for the driverside! Guy
Guest greimann
Like Mr. 80LT1 said, ZX's don't do the JTR position. Most of us have made our own mounts from flat plate. See picture below. There are no Hooker mounts. Your left header situation is going to be complicated by the steering shaft that I believe RossC has solved by fabricating aluminum wedges to move the whole works closer to the block. I'm not real sure about this. Stock cast iron manifolds are a good compromise. As far as your Datsun 5 speed, I wouldn't even bother trying. There would be so much custom fabrication to install a transmission that will frag on you on the first hard launch. Get a T5 from a Camaro and the drivetrain is all bolt together with stock Chevy parts. More pictures in the link in my signature.
Guest 327zxer
So all you used was a flat plate on both sides. What type of mounts are you using on the motor itself. What type of vehicle did your engine come out of.
Guest 327zxer
I think I will use the john cars kit which is way overpriced but it comes with the stuff i need so I don't have to go searching around for the parts. as for headers i think I will stick with the ramshorn manifolds. Guest 327zxer
What am I supposed to do for a driveshaft now. I know a GM driveshaft won't bolt up to a datson. So what am I supposed to do about that. I know johnscars makes a driveshaft adapter should I get that.
80LS1T
Look up "Neapco Adapter" under the search function. This will give you a part number for the adapter and most likely the U-Joint number for the "SPICER" U-Joint that everyone uses. Then you have to measure your driveshaft for how long it needs to be. My machinist told me to 1.) stick the transmission yoke in the tranny all the way 2.) pull the yoke out 3/4" 3.) place the new adpater on the differental 4.) now measure from center-to-center on the 2 U-joints. And that will be how long you need your driveshaft. When you have your driveshaft made be sure to have all new SPICER U-Joints installed. The part number for those will also have to be looked up on the search function. Hope that helps! Guy
