Guest Anonymous
Anybody know who the owner of the orange V8 Z car is that showed up at the Pizza & Pipe's Z gig in Santa Clara/San Jose Thursday night? See Link to photo of car I'd like to contact him to take better photos of his whole rig and setup. If ya'll would like to see some great photos of that car please help plug me into the owner. Guest gbvol54
Anyone here using side pipes with a SBC? Seems like it would make routing the exhaust easier. Pro/cons? They look pretty cool on the one pictured here.

Guest Anonymous
Pros: It looks good, it sometimes sounds great, done right ground clearance may improve. True dual exhaust and did I mention it looks good? Cons: Easy to burn yourself on , sometimes sounds terrible (depends on the baffles and the cam really), routing could be a pain unless you can exit out of the sheetmetal area of the inner fender and even then its going to be a tricky exhaust installation IMHO, could be wrong, I'm not sure what sort of room you'd have under the T/C rod area for a exaust system underneath. Sometimes finding the right length units is tough. Thats about all I can think of, I like them on there, but they have to be mounted as high as possible (like right under where the bottom of the door opens in the rocker box area)IMHO or ground clearance will just be something you've heard about and don't have. Guest heinera
I just installed some sidepipes from jcwhitney. They were about $170, come in several lenghts. I have not yet driven the car but it sounds good in the garage. I routed the exhaust with summit $80 block hugger headers, some self welded 2 1/4" 90 deg turns, and some 2 1/4" flex pipe to the side pipes. The piping goes directly under the rubber bushing for the front suspension brace, and I did not need to cut the fenders for it to work. I did bent the bottom lip on the fender though. The pipes are not as low as the framerails. I am happy with the result so far. Adam

Guest JAMIE T
Is it possible that those header/sidepipes are the Hooker ones made for a corvette? They look like they could be.

Guest y2khayabusa
I'm the guy in Livermore with the orange side piped Z. That was the easiest and cheapest way I could get the exhaust on the car. It was a weekend engine swap. Now I'm ready to pull it all back out and do it right. (the 2nd time) The only problem I have is that the pipes scrape when hangin turns, but thats my fault for not modifying the suspension. Oh and the sick Roush is my wifes! auxilary
and you ride a hayabusa... you're definitely a freak ever seen the turbocharged one with the extended swingarm run passes at sacramento raceway?
Guest y2khayabusa
I went to sacramento raceway last month and raced my blown 55 chevy, and my freinds told me that the guy should be there, but he never made it I was really counting on seeing that. auxilary
I think i saw him run his first day with the turbo, because he was working on the launch technique - he started out with 12 sec passes, and by the time i left (at 9, grudge match was until 11pm) he was clocking out at 8.98. He probably got even better. There was also what looked like a white datsun b210 with a smallblock that made low 12 sec passes
Guest Lee Smith
How would it be to put the side pipes where the rockers are? I am doing a 77-V8. The rockers are rusted through. Rails & floor, same as gone. I have made a frame to replace unabody stringth. It runs from the renforcing the seat belts fasten to. To the heavy steel where the rubber bushing of the brace of frount suppesion is. It is made of 1 1/4 X 2 1/2in. 1/8in. box tubing & 1/8 X 3in. plate. It will be fastened at the back with a bolt & weld. The seat X members, bolts. The heavy steel in front at the rubber bushing, weld. I am replacing the floor with mobel home alu. siding, ease to work, will not rust. Do not need steel for unabody stringth. I am doing the above, because I could not see buying the over priced floor & rail kit. It only took a short day to draw up & build the frame out of what I had on hand. I offered the above on Z car, for a alterantive to the over priced floor & rail kit. I only got laughed at. I know the above, sounds like a poor car to start a V8 swap on. I bought the car because the body, what you see on a walkaround is only rusted through in the rockers. The interor is low exl., not even a crack in the dash, for $100. The rails & floor are gone, because it sat on/close to the ground for ?? years.
Guest Anonymous
I do not where else you can put side pipes than have them exit from a hole in the front fenders and run along the rocker panels if the car is lowered at all. My Tomahawk Z has 52 inch chrome side pipes (3inch diameter with heat shields) that exit from a slotted hole in the fenders behind the tires and run along the outside of the rocker panels.
