madmanadam
Hello, Last year I did the swap of the R200, I now have 2000 mile on the tires. I'm in process of doing my coil over and when I removed my rear tires I noticed that the tread was wearing wierd, like toe-in/cupping? Has anyone had this problem and how do I fix? I must have set the R200 wrong. Where do I start on checking this? Getting new wheels and tire and dont want this to happen to them. Please advise Thanks Alot Adam
Tim240z
Adam, Cupping is usually caused by worn shocks (or strut inserts in our case). If the tires are feathered, then it's alignment (toe). Tim
madmanadam
Hi Tim, Fast response! Thanks The strut inserts are new KYB only 2000 miles. Its looking like alignment. Can one do this them self? or should I have a pro do it. How do you align the back? Thanks Again Adam
Tim240z
Adam, Unless you have a set of Mike's rear control arms, the rear has no adjustment. That tire wear may be a relick from the old struts. Once the pattern starts, it will usually not go away, even after the source of the problem is fixed. You can go to a shop and have the rear checked, but I doubt that it's the alignment if the wear is the wavvy/cupping type wear. Make sure that all the bolts and bushings are nice and tight back there. Tim
madmanadam
Tim, When I had the R180 in I had different tires and had no problem. When Tighting the control arms/bushings should the car be on the ground or in the air? I will be working on the car all weekend, so I will be rechecking everything back there. Thanks Adam
Tim240z
Shouldn't make any difference whether in the air or on the ground. Check your shocks anyway, just because thy're new, doesn't mean that they are still good, esp. from KYB. Tim
