Guest thepenguin99
I really dont know if this is a scam or not but it seems very strange and it has happened twice to me on 2 different cars. The first time it happened I listed an 86 300zx parts car for $400 and had some guy claiming to be from Africa wanting to buy it. He said he had a client in the states that could send me a check and then he would have the car shipped. This just doesn't make sense to me. The second time was just now with a 71 tr6 project car I was selling for $1700. This guy claiming to be a salesman for shell oil company and is currently in Wales. Basically the same story on payment. He has a client that would send me a check then he would pick the car up as soon as he returned to the states. This story makes a little more sense but not much more. Again, I do not know how this is a scam but it really smells of one to me. Has anyone else experienced similar incidents? Am I just being paranoid? eh? Nathan
Sumo
It's a scam, usually though the way it works is they offer you more money than the car is worth then you give them back the difference in a real cashiers check. Then by the time your bank gets notified they get away with your money and you get stuck with a bad check. The scammers rely on how long it really takes for the check to get processed. Dont rely on your bank to say " oh yeah, it clears in a couple of days" It really takes a few weeks to clear a check. This is really the banks fault and the scammers take advantage of it. Usually though the scammers dont want the car just the difference.
Guest thepenguin99
Yea the first incident did involve difference which is the reason I told him no. The second guy didnt say anything about interest but it sounded so familiar that I just said no anyway.
Mudge
Again, I do not know how this is a scam but it really smells of one to me. Has anyone else experienced similar incidents? Am I just being paranoid? Sounds like a variation on an old scam, like "I need you to help me funel 2 million dollars out of my country, you will get 20%." People have lost thier lives over such scams, I probably wouldn't even respond.

Mudge
Yep, I saw a special on History channel on the whole thing, it is CRAZY, it seems like 90% of the citizenry there is sitting at a computer, or telephone all day long trying to scam people, truly discusting to think people like that exist only to prey on others, ruin their lives, and sometimes kill them.
