The link below is a good place to decode the engine you have. Block casting are at the top and back of drivers side of engine. At the top and front of passenger side you find the type of car and year model. Head castings are between the valve springs, just pull the covers. Good luck and spend wisely :D

I am Z31 man myself, but have always wanted a 240 with that extra amount of torue.I currently have a 350 from a 76 chevy truck. My desire to drop this into a 240 is through the roof. I have a good idea of what has to be done and am aware of the JTR manual, which is one its way, but unsure of the drivetrain. Im looking at some mild horsepower here, anywhere from 325 - 375 with some highway gears. The intention of the car is to be driven daily. So, what would anybody recommend as far tranny and rear section? And possibly other input as far as motor specs on a 76 350.....from a truck? not sure of model.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, GREATLY.

Thanks, patrick.

here look these combos over,

combo#99 will be a good match and cheap to build but combo #26 has more potential later if you change your mind and want more power later, keep in mind that about 20% of your power is lost to the driveline so 410hp at the flywheel is about 328hp at the rear wheels !!!

and a 700r4 transmission (get one from a 90-92 car their stronger)is a great match for a street car because that low first gear gets you going and that overdrive lets you drive high speeds with low engine rpms for less engine wear and better mileage!

Definitely do not use the TH350 from that truck? unless you are going to strictly drag race it. Trust me, i'm kicking myself for not goin overdrive from the start. Now I have exhaust and other stuff in my way when I go to change out the tranny here in a few weeks.
