Guest Anonymous
I have an '83 zx and I'm almost finished building a 350 sbc. Here's what I'm wondering. Power steering: is it ok to just disconnect it and drain the fluid out? I really don't like power steering anyways. Second, do you think I can get away with the stock radiator with a high performance fan, or will it just not be enough? Links to pics coming soon... Tim240z
The gearing in a power steering unit is different from a manual unit, so without the hydraulic assist the power steering rack will be very difficult to turn. Tim
Guest greimann
You are going to want to adapt the power steering to the Chevy pump so it is functional. The car will be a biotch to steer and park without it. I have a few words and pictures about it here: http://home.earthlink.net/~dvgreimann/Powersteering.html Secondly, the stock ZX radiator will not cut it. Go with a Griffin 26 X 19 and it will fit the frame very nicely. It will require some brackets and some minor fabrication to get it to work, but it is a required modification. A Ford Taurus fan on low speed will pull enough air to keep everything cool.
Guest Anonymous
Thanks for the help. Is there any stock radiator I might find in a junkyard that would work (fit)? Like a Camaro? I'm kinda trying to stop the bleeding from my wallet here, already way over budget...
Guest greimann
Don't know about OEM ones that will fit. You might want to wander around your nearest junkyard with a tape measure and find out what has a 26" wide X 19" high unit. GM cars would be a good start because they will have the hose connections in the right place.
Guest DRK
I would do a search on this subject. I have heard some mention using a radiator out of a Chevy Astro van with a 4.3L. Do some investigation first though, as I am not sure about the details. Good luck. Danny
