deMideon
Grumpy.. your recent posts have been great! Unfortunately for me it's shown me how little I really know about getting what I want out of an SBC. So I figured I would see what you would recommend. I want to have a car I can drive every day, a strip / auto cross now and then, revs real fast and high... maybe 6500, and isn't too bad on the rear tires. I don't mind poor low end torque, or a slightly rough idle or using 93 octane. I have a 377 short block I am going to rebuild, and I have a 3.54 diff. I was planning on getting a T-56 too. I was thinking of getting AFR 210cc heads with a 64cc chamber, solid lifters, victor jr intake and a demon carb, and an 18lbs flywheel. I have no clue about which cam either, I've read alot about cams recently and I just seem to know less and less. What would you recommend? I don't have a huge amount of money (like most people!), I have to replace the rods and crank so changing the displacement wouldn't be too much trouble. Oh yea I forgot.. I am looking for around 400 hp. Thanks!!
grumpyvette
if your only looking for 400hp theres no sence in spending big bucks on AFR 210cc heads on that 377 engine, look here http://www.ryanscarpage.50megs.com/combos.html build combo #10 but on your 377 short block with 6" rods and the 215-220 cc IRON EAGLE HEADS,10.3:1 cpr AND substitute a crane# 114051 cam for that comp cams roller cam,add a 750 cfm carb on a victor jr intake and 1 3/4" headers, that combo will get you a good 400hp plus cheaply
deMideon
Thank you very much for replying! I should have let you know that one of the other reasons I wanted the aluminum head was for weight reduction. So for the best acceleration in my application would 210cc runners be too big? Or am I still way off? Thanks again!!!
grumpyvette
no the 210cc heads will work fine its just that if your only looking for about 400hp those heads cost about $1700 and there are cheaper aluminum heads that will get you to over 400 hp much cheaper look here, http://www.canfieldheads.com/sbc_2600.html about $1150 thats about a $550 savings for aluminum heads that are similar. or http://www.dartheads.com/sbpro215.htm
deMideon
$1700 Wow I didn't know they were that bad. Well those Canfields sure sound good! I think these will give me a good start. If I go over 400 hp, I don't think I'll mind !! Thank you for your help I really appreciate it!
