From what I understand ...aren't the 624's the "crack prone" heads?

You can tell the diff between a crack prone head and a "decent" head.

Look on the exhaust side of the head...see where the bolts go into the block? If it is a straight edge then its a "Decent" head, if the cast curves for each piston skirt in example..then it is a "crack prone" head....theses heads were commonly referred as "lightweight heads"

Hard to explain...got a better way of splaining grump? That way he doesn't get the "crackprone" head.

Well, at this point I might as well get a pair of S/R torquers or maybe just the S/R. I kind of wanted to use stock original casts but....

OK, well i picked up a pair of heads from a local core supply store and to my suprise i have confirmed one has 2.02/1.60's and the other im not sure if its even the same head. Heres the casting # 462624 = 2.02/1.60's 3932454 = ???? i hope this head has 2.02's!!! Would the casting number only be on one of the pair? 462624 i have already confirmed but 3932454 i cant find specs for anywhere! Any info would be much obliged! Thanks, Patrick.

OK, well, im slowly building a 350 and obtaining piece by piece and learning an awful lot along the way. Plans for the motor and intentions of the car are as follows: Mild motor with 365 horses i suppose, daily use with some track time. The block is machined with a overbore of .030 with a compression ratio around 9.5:1. Now i know i cant yet really determine my cpr without a set of heads so this is where i loose my mind because i see i have so many options. I fancy aluminum heads but money permits so i was just looking at doing a mild amount of machining to whatever factory heads i aquired (assuming they flow well as is). Although, today i was skimming through jegs and the Dart iron eagles caught my eye. So, heres what i was thinking, 200cc eagles, matched with a victor jr and im leaning towards a .501 lift with about a 240 duration. This, I presume, would equate to a motor that pulls hard through the higher revs. Im not sure really, the way i see it im speaking gibberish. Thanks for the info in advance.

the IRON EAGLE 215cc heads flow better than the 200cc heads if your looking to get the most for your money. the cam you pick will depend on the main use for the car and the intake that matches it and how much compression and lope at idle you want among other things, if your looking for only 365hp a performer RPM intake (used they go for around $60 so look around at swap chevy meets, DON,T GET A REGULAR PERFORMER INTAKE, it will strangle the engines airflow) and a CRANE #113821 hydrolic cam (normally I would choose a solid but a hydrolic meets your lower hp goals and mechanical skill level just fine)will get you to about,365hp/387 tq (right were you said you want to be! and a solid cam swap later will get you more hp if you choose to at a later date!

btw a CRANE #114681 solid cam and a victor jr intake will boost you to about 430hp/410ftlbs at the expense of a much lopeier idle, and moveing your torque curve about 1000rpm higher but thats not what you asked for! ;)
