Guest spunkysandoval
Hi ya'll! I'm about to get my Z running again and I figured I'd lube it up before I put it back on the road. My question was what components do I lube up? Also, should I replace the bearings, or just take them out and clean and repack them? I know that probably depends upon the condition of the bearings. Thanks for any advice Isaac
Guest greimann
Anything with a zerk fitting is a candidate for a couple of shots of grease. For your wheel bearings, if they are not making noise, keep 'em. To clean them, dip and brush them in mineral spirits paint thinner. Don't use anything that is water based. For the final rinse, dip in a fresh clean saucer of paint thinner. Make sure there is no grit left in. Blow off with DRY air. If your air has moisture in it, don't do it. Repack with a moly based wheel bearing grease.
auxilary
personally, I'd replace teh front bearings if you have it apart anyway. They cost under 10/each for BCA japan-made units from partsamerica.com, and for under 50 bucks you can replace all 4 front ones and the grease seals. Rears are a different story, more of a PITA to put on/remove, and cost 25-30/each.
