1971 240Z Brakes, Differential, and Suspension

I just picked up a 71 240Z 4 speed for a steal.

I am retired but not old (in a wheelchair), so the finished car will be used as a weekend escape and some amature Drag racing on a private track. The suspension should be stiffer than stock but not full race specs.

Plans for the car is to turn it into a semi reproduction of the 250GTO. I fell in love with that car as a child and realize I will never be able to own the actual vehicle, and if I did, I would never drive it.

I will be installing a 350HP Ford 302 (have the engine and the car it was going into was stolen, stripped, and torched). Chevy 700R4 Trans (same scenario). The tires and rims I am leaning toward are 235/45 17 in the front and 255/40 17 in the rear on Centerline rims. The body will most likely be the Vello Rossa. I will be keeping the car a hard top but will most likely cut the roof to set up a "Targa" top (cuts the cost of going to a full convertable, keeps to the original design of the 250GTO with the top in place, and gives the open air for California summers). :-D

My mechanic tells me that I need to get a suspension that will handle the horsepower, that I definately need to convert to a 5-lug setup, and 4 wheel disk brakes. Based on the forums I have found that the R200 - R230 is definately the way to go for the differential.

What I am looking for is which donor car would provide the 5-lug suspension front and rear with vented disk brakes, and the R200 or R230 rear-end that would go into the 71 240Z with the least amount of machining (I will have to outsource most of the work in rebuilding this car). The number of different ways to convert the 4 corners of the car is staggering to say the least. Drilling the rotors is not an option (mechanic refuses to do things half-way) unless they are blank rotors.

Thanks,

Micheal

if you can find an 84-89 300zx turbo in the junkyard you'll get most of the parts needed. you'll need the front hubs and rotors (5 bolt) and the driveshaft, diff,cv axles and rear rotors. 87-89 will get you a LSD diff and, i'm pretty sure, vented rear discs too.

then check out these sites for more info. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/6212/diffswap/diffswap.htm http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Boulevard/6117/zbrakeupgrade.html

then check out http://www.modern-motorsports.com Ross C. can supply you with the other parts required for the conversions. some of the sites will mention the 300zx non turbo but that is for 4 bolt stuff. this is by no means all the info you need but check out the sites and ask any other questions that may arise. :D

Guest Your Car is Slow

In the MM kit (http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=&products_id=2)

It lists the option to NOT include the new brembo rotors. I noticed these are worth 100 bucks off the cost of the kit itself.

Id imagine one could fine a used set of vented/drilled/whatever rotors at a JY for a good bit less than 100 bucks.

My question is....(perhaps ive missed reading it somewhere among all the hundreds of different nissan cars that have swappable parts for a 240z) im assuming that if I find an 89094 240SX rotors and calipers they will work fine with this set....is that correct?
