Guest dambro
Hi- This is my first querry on hybridZ. I hope I picked the right forum. I have done a 280 swap using JTR with no problems. After that car was wrecked by a red light runner, I got a 260 rolling chassis. This car has had major surgery including a Frankenstien front end( another forum.) My question is about the wiring harness. It does not not seem to have been tampered with but it doesn't correspond to the JTR manual. Threre were three choices apiece on black/yellow and black/white(none with protective sleeve.) Also no ignition box or blue wire to coil. The car is an early 260 (10/73 production date.) Is the wiring closer to 240z? Should I go with an aftermarket wiring kit? Thanks alot-Adam in Tucson
baddriver
My 260 has electronic ignition, with the transistor module mounted on the firewall in front of the passengers feet. I don't think the 240's had electronic ignition, so that wiring will be different. But, the 280's have fuel injection, so the wiring isn't the same for them either. I have the Haynes manual, and it came with wiring diagrams. They are accurate as far as I have found. The Haynes manual is cheap <$20 and well worth the price, but if you want in-depth info, go with the factory service manual if you can find one (ask your nissan dealer, take your checkbook.) Do yourself a favor if you do get the Haynes manual. Take it too a good copy shop and spend a few bucks getting enlarged copies of the wiring diagram. Then you can trace the lines in a marker close to the wire color, it will save you a lot of trouble in the future.
Dragonfly
Dambro do you have access to Auto CAD? The reason I am asking is because when I was in college as a project I drew in Auto CAD the complete wiring diagram for an early 260Z, on the computer it is in color but I also labeled all the wires with the correct colors in about twice as many places as the FSM did. The drawing I made is (when plotted out full size) 9 feet long by 3 feet wide and if you have access to a color plotter you can have a very easy to read color diagram to hang on your wall. If you would like me to email the CAD drawing to you let me know and also what version of CAD would you would like it in. Dragonfly
spotfitz
I would be very interested in the CAD drawing. R14 is what I use generally. I've been trying to track down a wire gremlin lately and the Haynes can make your eyes hurt, even with a small magnifying glass. Thanks for doing such an adventure! innerware
Just a side note. The Haynes manuals are good but the original datsun factory service is better. You can get a cd version thru Courtesy Nissan in Texas. http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv? This should work to get there. If not just go to Courtesynissan.com and in the search look for cd's Well worth the extra few bucks
Guest dambro
Thanks for the responses. I have been deconstructing the harness from the last car (maybe successfully.) Probably put the motor in this week after frame reinforcements done.
