Need help, convince me to change these bushings...

Recommended Posts

Okay guys, I have read all the threads about changing to poly bushings and I think that there is no question that its the best choice and a great idea. Here is my problem...

I have read that in order to install the lower control arm bushings you have to cut out the outer metal sleve. Looking at the way the arm is made this would leave all the pressure on the outer edges of the bushing with no support in the center. Also, seeing as these are stamped parts the actual holes that the bearings would go in would have verys loose tolerances (all the tollerance would be designed into the sleve your cutting out).

Looking at the bushings that are currently in place I can tell they are old. At the same time there is not a lot of bushing there! It looks like the bushing is maybe 1/4" thick. Just estimating there should be no way this bushing should give any more than maybe 1/16". Seeing as this bushing is the biggest pain to change do you guys think it would be a good idea to just leave the old rubber in place for the LCAs?

Some one please talk me into or out of this...

Thats what I did, call me lazy if you want. The outer control arm bushings did not seem to have any play or wear. The inner ones were trashed though.
