Ok, I posted this in "I'm Tellin' Ya" too...

I know it's possible to make a nitrous system hard to find, but are there any ways of checking someone out before you race them to know for sure whether or not they're juicing? I've heard guys on here talk about white residue in the exhuast tip...but, couldn't it be scrubbed away fairly easily? If they pop the hood, what should I look for on a fuel injected vehicle...what about a carborated? Any help would be really appreciated...and um...how difficult is it to get a '98 Maxima and/or a Mustang LX hatchback into the 11's? I'm guessing it's alot easier to get the Mustang down into a good quarter time...

what should I look for, in essence, under the hoods of either, to know if they have some serious cash under there, and...if they are just spraying, how hard would it be for my sbc350 (with several mods to the motor) to waste them?

Thanks in advance...

What an interesting question. Why didn't I think of that one? Probably because I'm not out there yet.....LOL.

The answer to the nitrous covers a multitude of possibilities, I think I'll hold back awhile and see what develops in here.

I did read about a stock car at Daytona (or someplace like that) that won. When they tore it down for inspection they found several small bottles filled with nitrous hidden of all places, in the roll bars!

On a carbed vehicle it should be pretty easy to see. Either they are running a plate under the carb or injected directly into the runners of the intake manifold. The direct injection route can be conceled by running everything UNDER the intake. It takes quite a bit of work to concel the set up this way but can be done, probably easier with an Edelebrock Air Gap RPM intake.

The stang' can do 11's easily with the right mods the Maxima I would figure would take some deep pockets and some super tuning. I personally wouldn't spray a Maxima engine, but if these guys are pushing you to run I don't think you'd have any problem wasting the Maxima, the stang' if he's tricky you might have a problem with him. Don't run for pinks, anybody that's willing to run for pinks would be willing to run for $500.00 So feeling cocky? Put up the cash offer to these guys and either shut em up or take their money worst case lose $500 I'd rather do that than lose than my car!!! Hell my exhaust cost more than that.

Just ask them if they have nitrous. If they do have it and tell you no, then that will be on their head. Admittadly, I have had a very well hidden nitrous system on a 5.0 Mustang. It involved a heavily modified stock intake(looked stock, but was actually a short runner type with port nitrous). It was of my own design, so nobody else has one. That car had heads(iron Dart), cam(stock elim. cheater cam), and ran low 11's on nitrous, on DR's. Look around the cars. Ask to see the trunk, interior, and under the hood. Compucar makes a system that puts the bottle in a gym bag. It looks unassuming to the untrained eyes. Most import types will fluant the NAWS. The Mustang guy may have it, and not tell you. If his engine looks stock, it most likely is. What year is the mustang? The Maxima guy can get his nuts cut even if he does spray you. Those guy won't spray more than a 75 shot. A V8 Z, LOL, you got that sucker covered. Just one more thing, if the Mustang guy is on any sort of drag tire, be wary. If he is on regular radials, give him a good nut cut for us, too.
