silicone boy
I've converted to fuel injection, and the manifold and throttle body now give me what looks like less than two inches before I hit the hood. I don't think any aftermarket air cleaner will fit. Can anyone suggest a subtle hood scoop that might work with a 280Z
utvolman99
I once had a 69 mustang 351W with a Weiand Stealth intake. I had such small clearance that I had to make sure the wing nut on top of the air cleaner was turned in the same direction as the hood lines and couldnt slam the hood. Before the final paint one of the guys who worked formy dad (paint and body shop) slammed the hood. Put two nice wingnut shapped dimples in the hood! I dont know how much the engine moves on your Z but you should be fine with 2"...
Guest 240hybrid
You could always get rid of the big boxy air intake and get a cold air intake tube. That way you can move the 90* arm up and down to where you want it. Just a thought.
Guest greimann
Look into drop base air cleaners. Some have a siginficant drop, like 1.25". If you use a 3" tall element and a flat lid, your stacking height above the carb flange is 1.75" . It may require looking around or mixing and matching, but 2" is a workable clearance. http://www.knfilters.com/Racing/cuslids.htm
