Guest Anonymous
Okay, here is the quetion. Do I use a early 70's Chevy V8 with a TH350 tranny. Or, do I use a 350 roller morot out of a retired police Caprice. It has a R700 tranny and is puuly 340 h.p.(of course it will need a rebuild. How hard is it to wire in a 90's motor wiht all the computer b.s.? Thanks.
BLKMGK
My opinion - you'd be happiest with the overdrive transmission. Zs have short tires and high rear ratios - you'd go crazy on the highway without an overdrive. Not sure on the computer stuff - is it a TPI type intake or TBI? You can either use the stock computer harness or an aftermarket harness, lot's of them out there. Is it MAF or MAP sensored? The MAP seems to be preffered for some reason. JTR does sell a book on TPI swapping that might be worth reading even if it doesn't apply to your specific donar vehicle... In the end both motors would make power. You might even be able to carb the Caprice motor and skip the computer stuff.
Guest Anonymous
It is a TPI. I am not sure on the MAF.

Guest Anonymous
Having just finished (did i say that?? LOL) a conversion using a '91 Camaro engine w/ TBI I can honestly say the computer/sensor/harness wiring mess takes some time and studying. The JTR TPI/TBI swapping manual is helpful in alot of areas as are the best wiring diagrams you can get. In my opinion the results are worth the effort. Well.....there's my two cents. Jeff
John Scott
Another point to consider is the metalurgy of the newer blocks. I've been told the new blocks have a higher tin content making for more durable cylinder bores etc. If any one can add too this...? Guest Anonymous
I was under the impression that the new metalurgy was only found in the LS1 line of engines..but my memory isn't too great. SpencZ
