JKDGabe
#1 - go get a new/rebuilt starter. #2 - don't know, maybe the AFM? #3 - sounds kinda like a loose wire, have you tried smacking the dash? I've got something similar in my truck but it's the radio itself and I have to insert and then eject a tape to get sound back. #4 - front end work time... "Can a stock 280z take a 5.0?" I doubt it although alot depends on the driver.
280Zen
some times the idle goes way below 1k like around 500 but that also onlt happens once in a while.....i was driving the other day and all of a sudden the rpms dropped way down and the car shut off so i tried to start and wouldnt start for 10 mins of trying to start i could smell fuel when i was trying to start it Could be a fuel issue, when I got my Z it had been sitting quite a while, 2 years! The fuel lines were clogged with varnish, the fuel pump was not pushing enough fuel into the fuel rail which would cause the rpm drop and stall, after a few minutes I would be able to start the engine again. It did get worse till I pulled the gas tank, cleaned the tank, sending unit, fuel rail and replaced the injectors.
Guest Venture-Z
When the Idle drops can you still rev the motor? If not pull the intake hose behind the AFM (air flow meter) and see if that fixes the problem. If so it's your AFM. I went through 3 of them. Finnaly just ripped out the whole FI system, and put in a Holley 390. Good luck.
