i am haveing a local auto shop mount my transmission and engine and they need as much information as possible on how it needs to be done. if i remember correctly the engines motor mounts need to be 4in farther back than the stock 280zx mounts are located. is that the only thing that i can tell them to help them mount the transmission and engine? if it matters any i have a 350sbc and a T56. just any info or tips that i can tell the guys would be great.

thanks

The mounts have to be pretty much inline with the datsun mounts. The ZX can't do the JTR setback like the Z. There are several way of doing this, Ross C, 80LT1 and I have all done this a little different. Here is my take using the GM clamshell mounts and biscuit isolators:

Yeah I used the MSA motor mount and tranny mount kit. I didnt use the tranny mount though. I had to fabricate that myself. The motor mounts basically just take the GM 3 bolt pattern and adapt it to the Datsun 2 bolt pattern and use the proper amount of spacing between the engine and the towers.

I have some pics on my site of the motor mounts and how they are attached to my SBC.

Hope this helps!
