I have been lurking on this board for quite some time gathering 'how-to' information (technical) on doing a Chevy V8 swap for a 240Z. I would like to comment this is one of the best forums I have ever visited.

I have always loved the early Z's and did not know that people were swapping SBC's in them until recently, in which I stumbled upon the video of Darius' Z. After watching those videos I have become infatuated with doing (attempting) a V8 swap.

What I would like to do is build up a SBC 240Z similar to Darius' albeit not so hopped up. I am just beginning to learn about Chevy engines so there is much that confuses me. I am planning on dropping a mid-'90's LT1 engine (from a C4 'Vette) and mating it up to a T56. From what I gather, Darius' engine is an LT1 but it displaces 383 cid. Did he bore/stroke his engine or did he buy it like that?

I have never built up an engine and I'm not "in the know" on engine building. Do you reccomend that I buy a built up motor? The application that I'm pushing for is a street car that is reliable and pretty fast (high 11's-12 sec). I am beaming for a supercharged EFI 383. Any thought would be greatly appreciated. :D

IMVHO Buy some books on building up a SBC (Vizard comes to mind) and do a NA 383 conversion. You can pretty easily get 400-450 hp out of a streetable and tame 383, especially FI, and not have to supercharge for more $$ savings. This will put your 240Z comfortably in the mid-11 sec. range for sure.
