Guest Luigi
comp cams. solid roller intake @ .050 247 .609 lift w/1.5 (I'll be using 1.65's) exhaust @ .050 252 .609 lift w/1.5 (using 1.5 at first) engine 4.155" x 3.25 (400 block .030" over w/ a 327 crank) 6.125" rods ported canfeilds (the small ones) Accel dfi gen 7.0 T56 and Weir bellhousing. I'm gonna double the HP of the 305 (230 at the wheels) It'll be in and running on a carb by the end of this month. I'll dyno it (flywheel) and then change over to the DFI. I'll keep you'll posted. Pete, did you get your Canfeilds flowed? I had some major differences between what they publish and what 2 different calibrated benches did. just had to share Luigi
Guest the_dj
You're running that cam in a 305?? What FI intake do you plan to use?
Guest Luigi
No, it's not for the 305 (I sold 305 to a friend for $500.00 its going in a 914) New engine is 352 cid big bore no stroke. I'm trading bottom for top (no tire width and no traction) plus I thought it'd be a nicer combo for track days. I have an Accel intake, single plane w/injector bosses. I also have a marine holley set up the same way. Neither will stay on the engine for long: I'm headed for individual throttle bodies. Would love a Moon crossram but it may be a Hilborn or kinsler or a weber down draft with bosses added. Luigi
Guest the_dj
Oh ok. That sounds a little more like it! Sounds like a nasty little engine. Those things literally scream at the revs they end up seeing!!
Kevin Shasteen
Looks like you are building the 350 Chevy Never Built(?)...very cool indeed 8) Looking forward to hearing your upadated report! Is your cam a one off custom grind or is it one of their catalogue grinds? What is the Comp.Cam's part# listing of your cam? What's the Seat to Seat/Advertised Duration? Kevin, (Yea,Still an Inliner)
pparaska
That's going to be quite the screamer! I had mine flowed on a SF-600. But I have the new 215cc volume intake port version (that don't need offset intake rockers like the 220cc heads). Here are the results: quote tested quote tested lift intake intake diff exhaust exhaust diff 0.100 62.1 64 1.9 43.1 50 6.9 0.200 141.3 142 0.7 112.3 99 -13.3 0.300 207.2 211 3.8 152.0 135 -17 0.400 255.2 264 8.8 173.0 149 -24 0.500 270.5 292 21.5 184.0 157 -27 0.600 278.9 297 18.1 195.5 161 -34.5 0.700 283.3 297 13.7 213.3 164 -49.3 0.800 298 172 198* (* w/pipe on 198) This is with a 4.25" cylinder fixture, that probably unshrouded the intake a bit, and might have caused the exhaust flow air up the fixture to trip on the chamber edge. Note that the intake flow was phenomenal - 292@.500, and 297@.600. The exhaust was done without a pipe on the port, except at .800" lift, where it still only flowed 198cfm with a 6" long 2" diameter pipe held up to the port. (flowed 172 without a pipe at .800") There is a ridge in the chamber all the way around the exhaust valve, making the air step down going from the chamber to the exh port. We are going to knock off that ridge. Also, we are going to put a radius on the top half of the margin of the exhaust valve, to help the flow turn around the edge of the valve. And there's a small ridge in the port, about 1/4 to 1/2" from the seat, leading up to the port floor. That will also be radiused. After all that testing, we will test the head again. Ken at Canfield didn't like hearing about those the exhaust numbers, but noted that they use a 4-1/8" fixture and a pipe bolted to the exhaust port, the latter which can add 20-30 cfm to the flow of the port on the bench. He wants me to get back to him with the new flow numbers once the port and chamber are cleaned up and we test again with a pipe. If that's true, the flow up to .600" would come into the range that the quoted numbers. The shop doesn't have a 4-1/8" bore fixture, so I'm thinking about using the 4" fixture for the next test. Guest Luigi
that's pretty good. I had mine "fixed" at HVH (top secret location, just kidding they're in Knoxville) intake .100 = 70.8 exhaust 55.8 .200 = 173 112 .300 = 220 145 .400 = 247.6 173 .500 = 270 192 .600 = 283 204 .700 = 289 215 these numbers are on a 4.00" fixture. I agree, the heads have crappy exhaust ports. the corvette alum. heads I had killed these on exhaust side 'till I got Joe to fix 'em. I have the old 195cc heads with 2.05 & 1.6. I will run it like this and then pull it down for a 2.08 MAYBE I can fit a 2.1 on the existing seat. the bigger intake really helps low lift flow and would let me back out some duration. for all you guys and girls looking for a GREAT cheap head the new pro-action/topline vortech head is it. Yeah it's iron, but with a change to 2.02 & 1.6 and 1" of bowl work it'll return numbers very close to my heads. Did I mention they're $231.00 for pro shaver. I getting a set for my turbo truck. The camshaft is a custom grind. I used Motor Machine's cam master program to pick needed duration, sat down with a comp cams catalog and engine analyzer for 1 week, threw up my hands and picked something less radical but hopefully not a parts breaker. The both lobes are from the hi-torque .406" series. Intake lobe is #4600, exh. is # 4601. coulda gona a bit more on lift, but......... still gotta get a shaft type rocker system. Crane's new bearingless looks good but so does Probes at $300.00 less. Comp's pushrod checkers are on back order (#7705 master set) so I can't get pushrods yet. on the fence about the Keith blacks I have. May use a set of Probe's so I can put the juice to it. HVH has a really awesome 1" 4 bar plate that I gotta have..... luigi oh (I got to rambling) yeah, it is the 350 chevy never built. I cheesed a bit on rod length but I'm still gonna go for 11:1 mechanical on 93 octane.
