Guest zfan
Has anyone run a stealth manifold on their small block chevy? Im currently running a victor jr. and feel like it takes too long to come alive not to mention torque loss. I have a Rpm Air gap dual plane but do not think I can fit it under my hood with 750 holley on top. Its 3 tenths taller than my Victor jr. The stealth would allow me another 4 to 6 tenths of an inch. I know that doesnt sound like much but every tenth count. So if anyone is familiar with this dual plane I would appreciate your imput. I did meet one guy who likes it on his Z. Hey Grumpy, Any Ideas? Thanks, Mike
Guest Anonymous
I've got one and it works great on my fairly stock motor. Not sure how it'd be with a bigger cam and more flow, although Weiand (depending where you read the specs) claims its good for 6800-7000 rpm's. Personally I prefer weiands stuff to edelbrock, but thats sort of a personal protest against edelbrock's stuff. The only thing about the Weiand stuff is it appears the sand castings are a bit rougher than Edelbrock if polishing is a factor. Regards, Lone Ps: I' sure with a 3" drop base it'll fit under the hood, but I run a 5" cleaner with a cowl.
grumpyvette
several people around here prefer the weiand 300-36 dual plain intake to the edelbrock rpm , Ive found them to be about equal and dependent on the cam as to which will run better.yes they will increase low and mid-range torque over a victor style intake but they also give up a little hp over 5500 rpm. Guest zfan
Im running a comp cams extreme energy xr288hr. hyd.roller 236/242..520/540 with 110 lobe sep. with 1.5 roller rockers. The one thing that stands out is it is approx. one half inch shorter than my rpm air gap. I can use all the hood clearance I can get! Plus what kind of bottem end gains could I see? Victor jr. is out of my cam specs, cam comes on at 2600 advertised but with victor intake car comes to life closer to 3300. Mike
Guest Rick Johnson
I gained extra air filter height by modifying my "dropped air filter base" even farther. By cutting out the 1/2" rise on the filter base which contacts the carb and then drilling holes to clear the float adjust screws, I was able to drop the base an additional 1/2". I even used a knurled head bolt instead of the wing nut to eliminate a pointed contact with the hood. You should check the clearance between the front choke housing and the air cleaner lid. I cut some of my choke housing away to insure air supply to the front two barrels. (I aimed for 1 1/2" of clearance. Hope this helps you get a reasonable air cleaner in. fastzcars
Hi Zfan. I do have a stealth manifold with a 3" drop base filter. I do like it. Torgue sarts a t a low 2500 to 2600 rpm on my stock zz motor. I also used a 1/4-20 nut instead of a wing nut to gain a little more room. I do know what you mean by getting a much room as you can.I but a wing nut on and dinged my hood the first time I closed it.
