Guest shuyun
I have a 1981 Datsun 280zx turbo by Nissan that has 196,000 miles on it. I have it out of the car and plan to have it freshened. I have the head getting a 3way valve job and know to use Nissan replacement parts. The block is being cleaned, honed, and deburred. What replacement Rings are recommended for the turbo motor. Nissan has Rings priced at about $130.00 and I wanted to know if this was the way to go are if there were a good alternative for turbo rings? Also what is the paint code for Nissan engine blue? Edit What are freeze plugs and do i need to replace them?
Lockjaw
You can use sealed power rings, they are slightly less expensive, but chrome like the factory ones.
Guest shuyun
So sealed power rings are good. What is the limit on boost for these and factory rings. What are freeze plugs?
z-ya
Freeze plugs are either steel or brass plugs that are pressed into the block. They are there to prevent the block from cracking if the coolant freezes in the block. They are easy to remove, and replace. There are three sizes for the F54 block. Small ones go in the side, a medium sized one goes in the front for the block, and a large one goes in the rear. It's ag ood idea to remove these before hot tanking because the cleaning solution can more easily get to all the nooks and crannies in the block's water jacket.
