Guest Perry
I'm not currently working on my Z because my recently purchased daily driver blew a head gasket. It's a 93 camaro Z28. I'm putting it back together and would love headers since the stock manifolds look like a major restriction and they are NO FUN WHATSOEVER to remove/replace. Being the sort to put way too many hours into something to save a small amount of cash... plus I need the cash for the Z ... I'm thinking of trying a set of summit brand block huggers with the collector flange cut off and a 2.5 inch pipe welded onto the collector with the appropriate bends to clear all the "stuff" in the way. I have a set that are installed elsewhere and fairly easy to remove for some test fitting, But I figured someone here could answer the initial questions below before I put some hours into getting the installed set off to try out. will the plugs hit the headers? do I have to move the knock sensor? are the ports reasonably ligned up? does the round tube header block part of the port? By the way a set of headers for this car are $300 used if not coated or a particularly good brand... which is why I'm willing to massage a set of $80 headers onto it. and the factory exhaust manifold is essentially a "log" type with approximately one exhaust port worth of cross section all the way to the y pipe, I think this may be an intentional restriction so the Vette could outrun the Camaro for that year. Being the "think out of the box-parts swappers" we are...Someone on this forum has tried this I'm sure.... Perry
Tim240z
They will fit, but are far from ideal.. BTW, I have a set of those summit headers...never installed. Tim
