HICKL
I know there is a ton on info on this but I am in a hurry. I planned on doing a 3" single all the way back and running thru a turbo muffler. My exhaust guy is telling me that he can't bend the 3" sharply enough in the back were it makes that S curve. Is this true? Is a 3" single overkill for a mild (250-275hp-ish) 350? Please help, I hope to get this done tomorrow. Any critisizm of further questioning is welcome.
Guest cbrunberg
Go to a speed shop and buy a 180 deg. mandrel bent tube. he can re-cut it into the system (make 2-90's from it). That's what I did. Carl
Guest Phil1934
I used exhaust manifolds on a street rod where one side pointed straight down so a stock bend would hang below the frame. I cut three pie shaped pieces out of the inside radius, not quite cutting through, then pushed it together and rewelded it. You can also buy donuts from Covell. These have very tight radii and come circular. You cut out what you need.
DavyZ
It probably is true, so buy the mandrel bends and have him weld them, just as was suggested--that is the exact way that Bob Lapp at Rio Muffler does his for our cars: he takes 3" exhaust systems he has hanging around for trucks or cars, and then cuts them up and rewelds them to fit the Z car. Voila, instant 3". I have a 3" system, but not installed into the car yet. It came off a Z car, so I know it will fit. It was custom made using premade mandrel bent tubing.
