jbeech
On Feb 27th someone posted a link to a Ferrari replica made of metal. That link points to a gambling site now, does anybody know how to find the site with the original article?
Guest blue73z
I think this is the one you are talking about. http://www.fine-art-models.com/e/gallery/scerri/index.htm
jbeech
That's certainly a fine example of workmanship, but it's not what I refer to. The automobile I refer to is a reproduction which was listed on eBay and didn't meet reserve (about $135k as I recall). Thanks anyway. SpeedRacer
If you are talking about the rebodied 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO this company http://www.reinaintlauto.com/Reinaused.html sold it to a guy in Florida who keeps listing it on eBay. I think I've seen it listed four times now. I don't know what they sold it to him for but it was listed at $175,000 on their web site. There are a few of these around. Ferrari provided original wood bucks (molds) to the English racing team that was campaigning GTO's. These molds were later sold and used to convert real Ferrari's (usually a 330 chassis) into GTO's. I think this is the place that did the conversion http://www.allegretticars.com/ferrari250.htm They will build you one - full size or three quarter scale!!! The story of the molds is quite interesting but to long to cover here. However, Ferrari tried to put a stop to these replicas as well but lost out in court since, when they provided the molds to the racing team, they never specified how they could be used. 8)

chelle
The pics of the GTO replica in bare aluminum came from Mark's site. He is the one who made Frank Beard's (from ZZ top) GTO roadster.. and one of the best - He makes the bodies from scratch and is an incredible artist when it comes to making body panels... His site is here: http://www.vgdauto.com/metal.html I highly recommend his work - the one that was on ebay repeatedly recently has a body by Alegretti and is a very nice car. The actual conversion was done using a Ferrari 330 as the basis. The seller will take $145,000. I've bid on the thing every time he lists it - but the highest I've taken the bidding to was $125k He won't come down and I can't get anyone to try to outbid me highter than that. I probably wouldn't go much higher anyway. It still needs a few minor things - doesn't have side windows at all, and it has a pretty much race only transmission with straight cut gears. If he takes $20k off I'll take it. *shrug* eventually he'll either sell it to me or he won' t. It's a nice car though. I have some good high res pics of the one in Florida if anyone is interested let me know. Chelle
