David K
Man i am so sick of the stupid L28 in my car. I have learned everything about this motor over the last 2 years. I have changed it 7 times because it cant meet my demands of driving, and it goes! Im just gonna do the v8 thingamajigger. I used to have an 89 chevy IROC and i was very pleased with the power the 350 5.7 tpi system put out. So this is why i am writing to you guys. I need ALL info you guys can offer, pictures, articles, sites, ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!! Like i said, my L28 cant do what i want it to do! Also i have a guy with a 350hp turbocharged sentra se-r that keeps talking his damn trash. I think its time for major beat in the head for him! SoCal guys, if you can offer ANY info, on-hands help, or ANYTHING at all, please let me know. Thanks guys, David Karey SoCalZ Prez 79280zx http://www.socalz.org

Modern Motorsports Ltd
David, a few of us have rattled the keys many a time on 280ZX V8 setups. A forum search will yield lots of info, John Hagg has a TPI setup in his 280ZX although TPI won't be too different from any other sbc setup, might have improved hood clearance perhaps? Whatever q's you have left, feel free to fire away. If you haven't already, you may want to narrow some objectives prior to jumping at a specific motor. Deciding on overall goals, then requirements necessary to meet them will help the complete project. A TPI setup may suit your needs or it may fall short, best to know earlier
David K
What i really want to do is drop a stock 350 TPI motor in my car. I had it in my old IROC and i liked it. I want the reliability of a stock motor and the accuracy of fuel injection. i know it will haul ass if i put in in my zx. I know David G. I think i might ask him a few questions when he has available time. Dk
Guest greimann
Hey Dave, Ross is right on planning it out first. You of course know that CA smog check requirements have to be considered too. A brief note on that, make sure that any aftermarket wiring harness you consider has a "check engine" light and the diagnostic connector incorporated, because those two items are mandatory for a late model EFI engine. If I were doing an EFI motor swap from scratch, I would definitely get a running donor car for all of the parts. This will save you time and money. After you take your engine and drivetrain parts from the car, you can sell what is left for more money than the cost of the initial purchase. Bring up questions one at at time. It is impractical / impossible to dump it all on you at once. Good luck!
Guest super280z
Dave, you're first post totaly reminds me of my L28 expierence. i simply could not get the thing to work and the resulting frustration lead me on a now 2 year downward spiral of finding the parts i needed, painting, and many hours of fabricating parts and beating the crap out of the car. it's been a great time and i assure you that you wont regret it. just remember it's not cheap to do it the way you'll probably want it but hey, "...how fast do you wanna go?" good luck and since you're a fellow ZX'er feel free to drop any specific questions my way. Mr. Greimann, Ross c and myself have all done this unique swap and are more than happy to share any insight with ya. good luck and dont forget to have fun with it! Dan Juday
You can check out the "My Displays" link below for picks and info on my tpi swap. I used the stock harness and saved the money. Lots of work, yes. But you learn a ton about the motor that way. Definitely buy a running donor car. You will need more parts off of it than you think. Buying a motor alone and all the other parts later will cost you much more. I've heard that some of the harness kits come with the smog wiring deleted. Not good in Cal with a pollution controlled car.
