grumpyvette
this is an interesting bbc engine build a few years ago that I thought everyone knew about but lately I find thats not totally true, so if you missed it read ALL THE PARTS TO THE SERIES (yes it seems to drag at times but stick with it) http://www.idavette.net/hib/vette_bbfh.htm

Guest 1fastz
Whats interesting about it ? its a bit of a pathetic engine performance wise. You can easily beak 500 horses without even trying hard at 9.8 to 1 compresion with properly selected oval port stock heads and that thing made 470ish with ported ones ? grumpyvette
whats interesting is the info on the problems they ran into like the oil pan that caused loss of oil pressure and maufacturers refusal to fix its design, the cooling problems and how they were corrected,ETC, yes I can and have build way over 750 hp with a bbc engines, Ive done it several times but its the little things that you learn along the way that make for a great combo! this article has lots of good info, don,t get hung up on the hp #s, this was done years ago and technology has advanced quite a bit but theres still things to be learned by reading. heres more bbc info, but don,t let the guys make you think only oval port heads work well! it totally depends on your combo,s rpm range, displacement, gearing, weight, cam timeing, etc. http://fteufert1.home.att.net/bbchevy/bbchevy.htm http://roadsters.com/bbc/#prep http://roadsters.com/bbc/#bore http://roadsters.com/bbc/#oval http://www.chevelles.com/racing/BBCombo.html http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/raceheadbbchev.html http://www.dragraceresults.com/worldcastings/ big blocks like more compression, bigger carbs and a slightly larger cam than small blocks if thats what your used to building btw
