Guest jt240z Posted July 27, 2003 Share Posted July 27, 2003 The fuel pump and EFI power relay are a one piece double relay. The relay can be found under the dash on the left side of the steering column. It's a large rounded rectangular goldish relay that will be screwed down. You may want to check the AFM first. The contacts that are used to turn the relay on, are located inside the AFM behind the black plastic cover plate. You can take the cover plate off and see the two contacts for the fuel turn on. From there you can rotate the vane or you can take the front hose off and push in on the vane inside the AFM, you should hear the relay come on as you move the vane forward toward the engine. Also check the AFM connector for corrosion. New relays from Nissan are running around $120.00 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
tannji Posted July 29, 2003 Share Posted July 29, 2003 OK.... I am prepared to take the BoneHead of the Day award... But only if you all give it to me. I just had the ECU replaced on my 240Z with TPI SBC. One week later it is dead again. The shop that replaced it suspect bad wiring on the fuel pump, as it is small gauge, and poorly routed, possibly even contacting the driveshaft. Also, the fuel pump is non-original, pretty small, and loosely secured in the fuel pump "cage" with wireties and wrapped styrafoam sheeting! So, they think the wire shorted, blew the Fuse in the harness for the fuel pump, and probably killed my first ECU, wich had no 5 volt output pulse for the injectors. Now for the bonehead part.... I have the kick panels removed while I am fabricating new panels and speaker pods for the floor area. The "bronze" looking relay is at the moment dangling, unmounted. Is this a part that REQUIRES being mounted and grounded? Next, can anyone specifically recommend an inexpensive fuel pump that supplies TPI properly? I need to rewire the pump completely anyway, I want to feel secure with the pump type as well. Let me know if my prob was coincidental, or truly boneheaded....
