Engine runs, driveline in, side pipes on! Need tires & w

Recommended Posts

Hey, haven't posted in a while, busy or something. Not sure. Car is ready to go including the dynoMax 52" side Pipes. The pipes are siting a little low (the highest we could get them though)

I need to know what the tallest and widest tires i can fit on this 72 z machine without pounding or flaring. I have 14 inch rims now but am thinking of buying 15 inch rims.

On the 14 inch rims I am thinking

p215/70R-14 25.9 tall and 6.4 wide or

p245/60R-14 25.6 tall and 8.0 wide

On the 15 inch rims i am thinking

p225/60R-15 25.6 tall and 7.2 wide

p235/60R-15 26.1 tall and 7.6 wide

p245/60R-15 26.6 tall and 8.0 wide

Not sure what to do about tires. Check the web site out, there is some pics of the project. icon_biggrin.gif

I would go with 16's or 17's. Just for the availability of different tire sizes. Are you using coilovers? A 225/50/16 looks good on a Z. I'm going with 245/45/16 on the back of mine. Check out Derek's site

He has 16's on his.

72ZCar,

Looking good man! Love the engine, the edelbrock stuff looks good on there. How low are the side pipes exactly? How did you route the pipe to them and whats the lowest part of that look like ground clearance wise?

Regards,

Lone

The lowest part of the pipes are the heat shield mounted to the side of the pipes. Its low... 2.5 inches low.

I need tall tires and stiff stock height springs and new shocks and i think I can get about 4 inches of clearance. We worked on the pipes all day sunday and the conecting pipes are higher than the side pipes.

Pics of the Side pipes this sunday for sure. Sunday. Just put them on last sunday and no pics yet.

ever notice how gravity seems stronger after laying on concret for 9 hrs

Need tire and wheel info... I want to order them tomorrow man. 235/60 15 ta's on all corners sound good. Will they rub? backspacing, how much?

i have 235/60 15's all around. fenders need rolling and the front is pretty tight but fits. looks good to me as i'm not a big fan of short sidewalls.

i have 250lb coilovers in back and 225lb up front from scca/mike gibson. car still squats like hell. i can just imagine with stock springs!

can check out my website but have not updated it lately so if you want pix email me.

Nice looking Z. Looks like it's coming out really good. I have some 15 x 8" Centerlines in the back with the 4.5" backspacing with 225 60 15 Dunlops. Lowered 1" in the back. Rolled the lip of the fender as suggested in the many posts here, but I didn't have to do any suspension mods YET. Does not rub when we launch the car. I will be going with coilovers to get more tire back there soon. Well have fun and hope to see more pics later. CHUD Z for now. Hopefully RIPPED Z soon. icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

Hey, Do those side pipes look as awsome in real life as they do in those pictures? I like them. Sounds like a good idea for dual exhaust simplicity. I just hate giving away the sleeper look. I just may try the sidepipe idea! icon_smile.gif

Very nice site, BTW!

I was scrolling thru the site and noticed a pic of a motor on the "automotive links" page--it has an ugly black carb like my motor does....then I realized, "Hey, that is MY motor!" icon_biggrin.gif lol Too funny!

Good pics on the build up--I like that airdam, man!

I know this is an old post but the side pipes mentioned with the website link I would really like to see. The website loads but the pictures dont. I am thinking about side pipes so I would love to see some. Thanks
