Hello people :-D

i have a question hopefully some can help me with, i own a 1979 280ZX, and would like to install a 4.6L 32V V8 in my car along with the Tremec T-56 gearbox ( preferred )..

is this possible? as i may be able to get my hands on a relativly new one of these engines ( 20,000km's ) and am wondering if it worth the time and $$$ to try and install, as i love mustangs and their power :-D but i cant let go of my 280ZX.

any help / links or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Carl.

Found these measurements on the net.

Engine: length, height, width

4.6 SOHC: 28", 26", 28 5/8"

4.6 DOHC: 28", 29 7/8", 30"

SBF 302: 32", 26", 26"

Dont know how exact these measurements are or from what exact location they were taken: so look upon them for what they are-someone else's measurements.

I'ld definately take some serious measurments prior to taking on any exp's. (stating the obvious, of course :? )

Kevin,

I dunno about those numbers, that would make it almost as long as a BB Chevy and about 1" narrower.....

The small block Ford is 29" long from end of water pump to flywheel, 24" wide, and about 28" tall depending on the oil pan, intake (EFI vs. Carb). It's all in one of the Ford Motorsport catalogs I have. They are longer than the SBC but narrower. Makes some swaps (like the Toyota 4x4 swap) tougher because of the length. They make a shorter Explorer water pump that gives you 3/4" more room.

The DOHC 4.6 is as big as the old SOHC 426. HUGE. I think there was a thread in this section about this swap a while back, check the search and see what they had to say.

Thanks

AL

Hey Guy...Check out the other forum for body kits, look at the website's: http://www.kitcars.com. http://www.reactionresearch.com, http://www.jtr.com., http://www.zcars.com. Anything is possible depending on what your $$$ limit and how fast do you want to go...LOL...

If you're looking for the most popular set up...Chevy 1st, Ford 2nd, More after market design on the Chevy....Ford is still a debatable subject. I think that if someone really took the time to develope the proper set up with a Ford kit, many would want to do it...Thus, a re-new idea is born.

With the Z it's all about what you want. Want you need. What's your purpose....

Peace,

Hudson Hawk.
