Guest cowboy6280
I searched for 4.3 and chevy v6 but didnt find anything. Has anyone put one of these in their 280Z? Its not going to be a race car but was going more for a mean street car. I have a '95 from an S10 sitting in my garage and being that I already have it, was considering it. Guest BigWhyteDude
the 4.3 can be an extreamly potent engine. Do you know what the typhoon and pcyclon(i know thats not spelled right) but they are the GMC s15 and blazer with a turbo charged 4.3 litter. But In a Z it could be an ok swap in terms of power but it would be pritty close to stock hp i believe. The 4.3 if im am thinking corectly will mount the same way a Gm v-8 will minus 2 cylenders. Can someone correct me if i am misstaken please. If it does then you can just buy one of the kits to install a gm v-8 into a z car and use the mounts. Or if you want goto http://www.jagsthatrun.com and buy the datsun v-8 swap manual and read it. I t has measurements and diagrams of the mounts and you could have them fabbed up for you or make them youself. With the 4.3 and the JTR mounts it will mount really really far back (good for front to rear balcance). by the way you will probly have to buy a custom drive shaft, and new tranny if you dont have one already the datsun tranny will not mount up (easily) to a gm engine. hey your from Georgia too. Where are you located? Im about 50 miles north west of Sav in Statesboro.
Guest cowboy6280
Hey thanks, I got the JTR manual and from what I can tell you are right. It looks like the mounts are the same for a V8. I have a T56 from a '95 Z28 that I was planning on using. Looks like the trans will bolt up without any major problems. There are a couple shops local here I can get a custom driveshaft made. I was curious if anyone has already gone this route and had any tips to share. I was told the pre '96 engines are better to use but the post '96 heads have a little better flow, but you have to redrill and tap the intake mounting bolt holes. Can anyone confirm this? was something that the local machine shop told me.
80LS1T
The reason that the pre 96' engines are better is because it is a lot cheaper to have the computer tuned or buy software to tune them because they are OBD1 engines. In 1996 they went to a OBD2 system for all cars that are to be used in the US. Its basically just a set of guidelines all manufactures that want cars in the US have to follow. Its things like emission controls, location of the scanner connector(underdash connector), etc. I think with a supercharger on that engine it would make a great swap. You could have 400HP easy and save some weight with 2 less cylinders! I thought about doing it but choose the V8 N/A route instead. Although it is a possiblity for my next swap! Guest cowboy6280
btw BWD I am in McDonough, a little south of Atlanta. Sounds like OBD1 is the way I want to go. Not real familar with superchargers, I know the roots type blowers are going all the time, but do these other work like an a/c compressor in that it has a clutch? that you can turn them on and off
