Guest Anonymous
Just picked up a 79 280zx, the body is in excellent shape and so is the engine but I would like to do a conversion. I picked up the JTR book and read it and called them as the book covers up to 78's. They said they have never done one on a 79 and there are some other modifications. Please let me know of any major considerations. Thank you for all your help TY Gabe '79 280zx ready for a Chevy VE
80LS1T
Do a search on "Greimann" (members name)..."80LT1"(my member name)...."Ross C." (members name) We have all done 280ZX V8 conversions and all of ours are just a little bit different. But they all seem to be working! The question you are asking have been answered a hundred times and all you have to do to get the answer is use the "search function" Trust me you will find more than enough info on a 280zx V8 swap. Guest greimann
... Please let me know of any major considerations. Thank you for all your help TY Gabe '79 280zx ready for a Chevy VE The two major considerations on a ZX conversion are hood clearance (if you go carbureted) and left side header clearance (none). If I was going to do it again, I would go LT1 like Guy's car. Considering I did my conversion in '94, they wern't exactly cheap then . Otherwise, it can be done with either engine configuration successfully.
80LS1T
Yeah the LT1 was "made" for a 280ZX V8 conversion. However like other small block chevys(SBC) the drivers side exhaust header/manifold is still an issue. I used the stock LT1 manifold on the drivers side cause it fit perfect. However for the passenger side I used a small header(smaller than a blockhugger, height wise). I should have just used a "ramhorn" style manifold on that side because the header that I have on there now has been nothing but a problem from day one!(it leaks like you wouldnt beleive!) Hope that helps! Guy
