Guest jjohart
Ok, so I forgot the trade name for Magnaflow straight pipe mufflers, which they call (trade name via Mario Andretti) "wide open performance"...wonder how much he got paid, and how much he can still hear! Guest ZmeFly
Magnaflo's are great, Jeffp runs a magnaflo on his system, sounds wonderful, flo masters are for v-8 guys. They are loud and restrictive, if your running a turbo use the magnaflo
Guest jjohart
Ok, SO WHICH STYLE MAGNAFLOW ARE YOU ALL REFERRING TO IN SO FAR AS MUFFLER TYPE>Straight pipe, or one of the other series?!! I need to know so I don't buy the wrong thing, b/c the straight type seems to be new according to the Magnaflow site, and again, they don't have sound files for that one. Is this the pipe to which you're referring? I dunno!

Guest Tempe_Z
For what it's worth I've got a DynoMax Ultraflow 2.5" on the 240 and a 2" Magnaflow mild steel oval on another car. If I had it to do over on the Z I think I'd go with the Magnaflow. When I was putting my exhaust on the other car, I started it up with just the open header (it's a 4 cyl) and it was obviously quite loud. I was concerned the MagnaFlow might be pretty loud too being a straight through design but I and my friend who was helping me were very surprised how quiet the MagnaFlow is once installed. It's got a pretty decent deep tone without being ricey. My friend was also pretty surprised how heavy the MagnaFlow is which indicates that it either has a thick shell or a whole lot of sound absorbing media, based on the sound level we were pretty sure it was media after we got it installed and started up. I think the bottom line is, either the Dynomax UltraFlow or the MagnaFlow are fairly equal in performance, they both seem to be built well and both should flow about the same. I don't think you can go wrong either way.
fl327
cheaper alternative is to run a nice chrome tipped 3" exhaust with no muffler. I run a borla and 3" mandrel, and it sounds great. It is loud, but I have my car mummified with competition sound deadener, and lots of music
