Guest DaneL24
I'll probably be putting an electric cooling fan into my '71 240, and I have a question about the fan wiring. Now I know the fan is turned on and off by a thermoswitch...but do I simply put the thermoswitch inline with the electric fan motor circuit...or do I have to wire it so the thermoswitch activates a relay to turn on the fan...and the actual fan motor has a different power source that is routed through the relay. I know the fan motor uses up a lot of juice...just not sure I would want all that juice flowing right through the thermoswitch. Thanks in advance. gramercyjam
You need a relay that is activated by the thermostat. The relay then completes the circuit between the battery and the fan. Don't forget to put a fuse between the battery and the relay. Painless makes a nice little kit for this that can save you a lot of time.
