Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
Hey shortyz, what kind of gas mileage do you get? Stick or automatic?

Guest butlersZ
Hey Shorty, Does the 302 seem pretty well matched to the Z both power wise and RPM's? Although I speak from no experience, I think it would be perfect.
Guest shortyz
its great because it makes its best power above 3500rpm. this keeps the rear tires in check when coming off the line. even still when u hammer on it it goes sideways and squeels like a pig. lol it would do great on a road course for sure, a true screamer! (i like them ) i would like to see what kinda power it would put out with some nicer heads, its got camels with 202's right now..
Guest butlersZ
camels you say? with 2.02's? Bastard once again! Can you give me a rundown of what your setup is? As in meaning parts wise. From what I have researched, I really, really, want a 302 chev. , or at least to make one with the block that I have. I have heard that the 283's with the 327 tooling are able to be bored out to 4.00 . I have one with the 327 tooling and am considering it. I priced 302 pistons today at Kragen, and they want $800 for all eight! Way too much! Someone said 350 pistons with a longer rod. Hmmm....Oh, and whats your HP and Tq numbers Shorty? Guest shortyz
yeah sure.. camel 202's stealth intake edelbrock 750 blockhuggers forgot the cam its been 7 years since i put it in. but i can find out for you later. its quite lumpy. 1 thing i gotta say bout the carb, that edelbrock runs the car AWSOME!!! i bought 3 god dam holleys (used) and i could never get em going right. i wont ever buy a used holley ever again. A++ for edelbrock for bolton and drive away! hp/tq i have no idea, havent put it on the dyno and it hasnt seen a 1/4 yet.. needless to say its only been driven about 2000 miles prolly. hehe it beats the crap outta my buddies 240 with a 350, decent mods, and that pulled a 13.3. heres some pics. http://www.shortyz.net/240/
Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
geez, he's got the sidepipes too! wanna just trade cars?
Guest butlersZ
Yeah, I definitely think I'm going with a 302 SBC, It just seems such a perfect match. Your car has now been idolized by me. Your setup is very nice, i like the cold air induction, never seen one like that before, simple and effective. Not to mention clean too. You say the edelbrock 750 works really good, I had planned on going with Demon 750, but we'll see. Now for the intake manifold, another decision thats been bothering me. Been thinking about a victor jr. style intake. Nonetheless, I am still jealous.
Guest 1zcarfan
Not yet but I'm working on it!!! I've bought a '72 240Z that I want to drive a little before I tear it down and restore. I finally located someone with 302 cranks so I bought a couple. Both are large journal mains and small journal rods. That allows the use of a four bolt main 350 block. I also bought a pair of aluminum Brodix heads and TRW casting pistons that should allow me to run pump gas. Getting ready to order the JTR kit before the price goes up again!!! I'm still trying to figure the best exhaust (I really do like the look of a NICE set of side pipes). Once that is determined, I can start looking at cams and induction systems. I plan to start with carburation but a TPI certainly would be nice after all the other bugs get worked out. Looks like I won't be the first to do this, but I think that the horsepower in the upper RPM ranges will be great in a Z. A 350 just seems too torquey for a car of this weight. It is a truck motor after all. Trying to get it to stick and not destroy the car seems like a contradiction.
Pyro
If you want to make HP on a budget you should rebuild a stock 350 and install a good set of heads, intake/carb, and a big street cam. A set of vortex heads on a 350 block with a 270 comp cam and a performaner rpm intake and Holley 750 will make 400 hp. A 350 with cast pistons, cast crank, 2 bolt mains, and stock rods will handle 400 hp without any problems. And rev just as well as a 283 or 302 if the cam is big and the valve springs are correct. I have been shifting my 350 at 7000 rpm for the last 10 years without any problems or a rebuild.
rustorbust
62, 63 and some 64 283 blocks can be bored over to a 4" bore.
