Guest ON3GO
im outside doing my struts (again) and i understand the basics i think... ok bear with me.. cut the stock spring perch off, so now its nice and smooth. i then put the tokico illumina strut in and put the gland nut in.. i then measured to find out how much tp cut off.. (is there a easier way because i messed up on one doing this).. now im about the weld the strut together ok.. now one the gland nuts that came with my tokico's look alot different then my stock ones.. it doesnt have the rubber bearing thingy like the stock one.. is that ok? the strut insert fits nice and snug in there with the gland nut that it came with... also i know i have to have 1.5inchs from the top of the threaded sleve and the top of the datsun strut (correct?).. also do i need a o-ring anywhere on the strut? anywhere at all? im gonna be putting a big ass weld on these struts cuz im afraid that these will snap.. .. anything else im forgeting? thanks guys i really need this help, i have less then a week to get this suspension done and this is all i really need to do besides the rear struts.. then its off to get my motor put in and he needs the car for atleast 2 weeks.. i have 3 weeks left here in florida.. thanks guys again. mike
johnc
> im gonna be putting a big ass weld on these struts Try three small tack welds first and then fit everything together to make sure it all works. Then, instead of making a "big ass" weld, why don't you weld it correctly with enough penetration while avoiding overheating the part? Any weld beat above the part surface is wasted - it doesn't add strength, just weight and heat. Also, check my thread on how to section a strut.
