Guest autocroos76
I have a 1976 280z. I've installed a 406ci SBC with a Turbo 350 trans. All parts for swap came from Motorsports Auto. Ok now the problems I've had with thier kits. Full legnth headers too close to floor pan-cut off collector flange and re-welded at downward angle. Drive shaft too long-shortened 1 1/2 inches. Radiator hoses convoluted not smooth. Anyone else have problems with Motorsport Auto kits? BTW my specs- 406 with Edelbrock FI and nitrous, Trick Flow Heads, cut out spare tire to mount fuel cell from underneath, beefed up turbo 350 trans with higher stall and added clutches, adjustable camber plates, lowered springs, all polygraphite bushings. I'm almost done, soon to install 3inch oval exhuast, custom 17 inch wheels, and Arizona Zcar brake upgrade. Anybody used thier brake kits? Also anybody know where to get wiring schematics for my 76? Guest Perry
sounds like a nice setup. wiring schematics can be found in the haynes manuals at your local parts store. Perry
Guest Aaron
Welcome. Nice sounding car. Have any pics? pparaska (http://home.comcast.net/~pparaska/index.html) used the Arizona kit I believe. He had to fabricate his own ebrake system. Do a search in the Brakes, Wheels, Suspension, and Chassis forum, and you will find all the info you need. You will also find that there are at least 3 members that are manufacturing kits or partial kits for the Z.
Guest autocroos76
Thanks for the replies. I have some older photos but no scanner and will try to post the new ones when the car is done. I'll try the Haynes manual, I have a manual but it didn't have the schematics in it.
Guest autocroos76
I found a Haynes manual and it has the wiring diagrams, thanks.
SportZ2
The MSA kit uses block huggers. (Guessing the headers were not in the kit) Any setback setup requires driveshaft shortening. For wiring, buy the cd manual from Courtesy Nissan. (cheaper than buying the paper FSM and you can print out the pages)
DavyZ
Welcome. Nice sounding car. Have any pics? pparaska (http://home.comcast.net/~pparaska/index.html) used the Arizona kit I believe... NOOOOOOoooooo! I don't think Pete could stomach doing a Scarab type fo kit after all the research he has put into his car! His car at the very least has "JTR-type" of mounts. Pete, correct me if I am wrong, but that is the extent of what I know about it! SportZ2, sorry to hear you spent that much money and their kit wasn't made as well as it seemed. There are guys on the forum with the MSA kits, but I've never heard them complain about them or their install issues. Hmmm. You'll notice that most guys on the Chevy forum run either JTR (majority) or Scarab. Davy
Guest autocroos76
Sportz2, They offer both a block hugger and full length headers, also the drive shaft was from thier kit. Today I hope to finish underneath the car and get it off the jack stands.
Georgia Flash
The MSA kit is not considered to be a "SCARAB" type kit. I have the kit and like the way it mounts better than the JTR kit.
Guest autocroos76
Georgia Flash it seems that I have somehow mounted my motor further back than normal. I cannot mount the transmission dipstick. Could you measure from the firewall to the head on the passanger side and let me know what you get. Thanks
Georgia Flash
I would be glad to except I, as in most of us on this board, have my 350 on an engine stand I still dream of having the thing all together and running but that dream is fading fast. SportZ2
I'm confused, I never bought a kit from msa, I was just wondering how he used full headers in the setback position without having major fit problems. The only pictures I've seen of the msa kit shows block huggers only. Sorry for any confusion. I only have the jtr and scarab hardware.
