Guest Killer Zx
Hi guys I have a 1981 NA 2+2 and I am looking to swap a V8 into this car. I have already purchased a 350 small block and am currently rebuilding and i am now looking for a transmission to go with. I would like a manual but I have heard that the automatic is an easier option? any suggestions on this would be great. Also i was wondering for those of you who had already done the swap what did it cost you(not for your engine and trans but for all the swap parts mount cables etc...) I have heard that johns cars kit is a complete kit is this true? Thanx guys Cody[/i][/b]
Guest comeandzpa
1) Visit http://www.jagsthatrun.com. This is not for ZX's, but will give you a rough estimate of the costs. 2) Try a search.....this has come up countless times, and several in the last few weeks. Theres a button at the top of the screen that says "Search". It will become your best friend.[/url]

Guest BigWhyteDude
you do need 2 spacers of diferent thicknesses for the motor mounts. if you buy the entire JTR kit they will come with it or you can make your own. or you can buy them seperat from JTR. I my self will make mine when the times comes.
baddriver
The JTR stuff is specific to the earlier Z's. Motorsport auto has mounts for the ZX's. Typically prices are around $3000 if you already have the car. If you already have the engine too, figure $1000 or more to do..... Exhaust $300 Driveshaft $100 Radiator/fan $200 Fuel System $100 Mounts $200 Misc $100 to $1000 depending on what comes up. Things like getting the guages working, buying tools and renting a hoist, Factory service manual, sensors that were not included, air cleaner ducting, it all depends on which motor you use, FI or carbs, horsepower, etc. This does come up about every 2 weeks, so search and you'll find a lot of opinions on it. Many will be more informed than mine.
Guest greimann
I took the time to do a brief summary on what I spent on my conversion. The list is not totally complete and you will see does not cover any expensive kit pieces. I also list a used transmission, and I eventually went with a new one at 3x the cost. 80LS1T
Heres how much my 280ZX has costed me so far to swap in my LT1/T56... http://www.datsun-280zx-lt1.com/Big_Pictures/OtherStuff/Money-on-ZX-Conversion.txt This also includes some L28 engine parts that I bought before I started the LT1 V8 conversion. It also includes some interior parts also, but you should get the idea! Guy
Guest Anonymous
I did one, it can be seen at http://www.waltech.org The point was to keep costs down, and not many aftermarket parts where used. The guy I did it for ended up selling it for $7000, and figures he lost about $1000, and he bought the car, painted for $3000, amd spent $800 on interior stuff. --Karl
