Should I buy this 78 280Z SBC conversion?

There is a 78 280Z coupe for sale locally. JTR conversion kit underway, but car is not running. Has a '72 350 with Vortec heads, Weiand intake, Holley 650cfm, turbo 350, R200. 10,000mi supposedly on engine/tranny. Drivetrain is in, wiring needs to be done, as well as cooling and charging. Frame rails, battery area, spare tire well in great shape. Some rust on a fender and doors. $1500 is the asking price. My first thought is to buy it for the complete drivetrain and throw it in my '72Z. Take the old tired L28 with a drawthrough turbo and slap that back in the '78 and sell it. My 72' is headed for paint, wheels n tires....and then I was gonna do the motor over the winter. This could be my donor with a way to get a little cash back out of the deal. I would love some feedback.

Thanks!

Oh, also, my '72 has all new suspension and interior is just about done. Necessary bodywork is much less on the '72. So, it only makes sense to me to keep the '72 and swap the sbc into it rather than vice-versa.

Considering the average engine and trans is more than the asking price, I'd do it. As was mentioned, I'd take the 350 TH tranny and sell it for a few dollars and find a 700R or 200R, you'll thank youself and so will your motor on the freeway.

Regards,

Lone
